I am Full Professor of Political Science, Faculty of Political, Economic and Social Sciences of the University of Milano. My research has mainly focused on comparative politics and public policy, the welfare state and European integration. I have taken part over the years to many Commissions and Working Groups set up by the Italian Government, the European Union, OECD and ILO. I was member of the Onofri Commission for the Study of Italy’s social expenditure (1997), of the Inquiry Commission on Poverty and Social Exclusion (1998-2001), of the High Level Group on the Modernization of Social Protection (1996-97) and the High Level Group on Social Investment Policies (2011-14) set up by the European Commission. I currently serve as President of the Network for the Advancement of Social and Political Studies (NASP) among Lombardy’s and Piedmont’s Universities and am a member of the Board of Directors of the Centro di Ricerca e Documentazione Luigi Einaudi of Turin. Since 2004 I have been a regular editorialist of the “Corriere della Sera”.

In 2013 I have received an Advanced Grant by the ERC, to carry out a five year project on “Reconciling Economic and Social Europe” (REScEU)
